An aside

I saw this bumper sticker which I must share with you all:

Knowledge is power.
Power corrupts.
Study hard.
Be evil.

This definitely speaks to my condition.

Nah. The whole point is to encourage something good by making it look deliciously evil.

In the same way, one can discourage something rebellious by damning it with faint praise.

Two examples:

1. When I was in the process of becoming a theist and a Christian, I met two people who proclaimed themselves as Objectivists (you know, Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, and all that). When I found this out, I couldn't help but say that I was a theist. They immediately fell for the bait, and proclaimed that they were atheists. Grinning, I said, "That's fine; at least you believe in something"

2. One of my nephews had recently decided to cut all the hair off of his head, with the exception of two patches of hair that he could gel/spike into horns. The last time that I saw him, I noted that the fuzz on his head had recently been removed. I told him: "I'm so glad to see that you are finally starting to shave."
